About
Greetings!
This blog has a dual purpose, at least for the moment. It is primarily a blog for my illustrations and sketches, and any other creative ventures I wish to embark on. Most of this material is in the realm of sci-fi and fantasy, often with a surrealistic, dream like element. This includes original works as well as fanart. Prints of various works will be available in the near future. It will also detail my involvement in conventions (specifically anime, comic, and sci-fi conventions). Well, at least it will in the future. I’m still a bit new to all that. This summer I will have my first artist table at a convention.
The blog is also the temporary home of my graphic arts portfolio, at least until I get my full portfolio website finished and online.
I’m a freelance artist in Tampa, Florida, who focuses on graphic arts, illustration (fine arts, commercial, and concept) and typography. This blog is primarily intended as a place for me to simply share my latest works, as well as some reviews of products. It’s also the temporary home of my portfolio until my actual portfolio site is finished.
I’m currently seeking freelance, part time, and contract work in the fields of graphic arts and illustration. If you want a good idea of what my skillset it, visit the Portfolio/Best Of page. If you are interested in my services, then head to the contact page!
Now, a bit more about who I am…
I have been drawing since a very early age, and consider that to be my primary hobby, with cooking, writing, and history trailing close behind. I have explored assorted areas of fine and commercial art, including collage, sculpture, performance, and short story writing. Drawing and illustration, however, are my primary focus in this area, and I consider illustration to be one of my freelance/contract service.
I have been using Adobe software for many years, and I am primarily self taught, though I’ve had some formal instruction as well. My software skills include most of the Adobe creative suite programs, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, and some limited skills with Flash. I am also generally skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
I have been working for employers, freelance, and as my own entity since 2005.
I am also currently attending college. Art/design is not my major, however. My actual major is architecture. I am not an architect, merely an architecture student, though I do hope to become an architect one day in the future. How long that will take, however, is another matter. For the moment, though, I’m just one more architecture student. Aside from architecture, my other major academic/intellectual interest is history. I’ve often told people that, if I were not working towards becoming an architect, my next career choice would be teaching history at the university level. When it comes to history, I would say that my primary areas of interest are American history, especially the cold war period, and ancient history, particularly the classical period (ancient Greece and Rome) and pre-classical antiquity (Egypt, Mesopotamia, and ancient China and India).
Other interests include science fiction in general, attending anime and sci fi cons, cooking (I primarily cook Thai, Indian, Chinese, French, and eastern European food), cycling, and all sorts of films, particularly classic black and white films, film noir, thrillers Sergio Leone style westerns, and the works of directors such as Lynch, Cronenberg, Kubrick, and Hitchcock, to name a few. I also love horror films, especially the old Universal Monsters pictures (Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, etc.) and silent horror.
Hi mate, I found your Yggdrasil design and am wondering if you would let me use it for a cd cover design for a uni project, a one off use will make no money from it, I love this design, if not, are you selling it?
Regards
Lionel
