The Legend of Zelda: Ruins in color pt.2.

Here we are. The final version of the Zelda ruins drawings. Three rooms, each from a different labyrinth, all inspired by the artwork found in the manual of the original game.

I’m very, very satisfied with how this turned out.

This concept my be revisited in the future, in some form or another.

The Guardian of Forever.

City on the Edge of Forever is regarded as one of the greatest episodes of the original Star Trek. The time travel story was written by Harlan Ellison, and is among the darker episodes of the original series, which was often lighter in tone and heavy on the silliness. The tragedy and uncertainty in “Forever” is on par with the paranoia and tension in “Balance of Terror”.

“Forever” also features one of the most under-appreciated an intriguing characters in Trek history: the Guardian of Forever. the Guardian is a sentient portal that can send the user anywhere in time and space, and is aware of the events of history as they unfold. His origin is mysterious. According to the dialogue in the episode, he had not interacted with anyone since at least before our sun came in to existence. He also implies that he exists outside of linear time.

I’ve been meaning to do a fanart of the guardian for a while now, and here it is;

Please click the image to see it in full-size. This was drawn on landscape paper with micron pens and copic multiliners. It was colored in photoshop.

Tablet-color.

Well, I said I would color it, so here it is! Just a simple, elegant flat color, which is what I usually prefer.

Screamer Ship

This is an older image. It’s a strange, semi-anthropomorphic space vessel, whose front section looks similar to a screaming face. It’s supposed to have an old, dirty, worn out look. The overall aesthetic has some biomechanical and insect-like elements to it.

Misc. Crystals.

Some of the crystals from the Crystal Migration image. Just a quick sketch using microns and copic markers.

Flow.

Another image inspired by a combination of Giraud and Final Fantasy, Crystals are pleasing to draw. So, here’s another one.

Mountains.

This began when I thought of the image of  young woman holding a mountain range. It went from there, as I decided to give her an ethereal, fantasy sort of look, with stylistic lines that hinted at wings. Gray-brown hair, and a white top and skirt, give her an almost monochrome look. I decided to add the water, as if there was a river flowing from the mountains.

Paul Krugman fanart.

Yes. I did a fanart of my favorite economist, Paul Krugman. The Nobel Laureate and New York Times columnist. Yes, I am the biggest dork in the world.

Anyway, here it is. Lineart and in color. This was done on 9 x 12 (I think) windpower sketch paper, with Micron pens

Typographic Sci Fi Posters #4: Planet of the Apes.

The fourth and (for now) last of these posters. I may create others in the future, but I want to work on refining these four for now. This last one is, obviously, Planet of the Apes. This time, like in the 2001 poster, the image and the quote are very closely linked, and this is the ominous line which precedes the famous twist ending. Hopefully the statue of liberty image is clear enough in this rendition.

Red Pandas and Venetian Masks.

Red panda, sticking it’s tongue out, and looking goofy. Yeah, I like red pandas.

Anyhow….

I also did this sketch of a venetian mask. It’s, well, a venetian mask. It has no mouth because I thought it might look visually interested. The shape of the mask is meant to have a shape vaguely reminiscent of a cobra. There rest of the elements are just abstraction.
