The Legend of Zelda: Ruins in color pt.2.

Here we are. The final version of the Zelda ruins drawings. Three rooms, each from a different labyrinth, all inspired by the artwork found in the manual of the original game.

I’m very, very satisfied with how this turned out.

From top to bottom:

Level 1.

Level 4.

Level 8.

This concept my be revisited in the future, in some form or another.

The Legend of Zelda: Ruins in color pt.1

Some time ago I posted the lineart of the ruins from the original Legend of Zelda. Well, they have since been colored! Here is the first image.

The coloring is meant to be reflective of Level 4. I sampled the color from a screenshot, actually.

More to come!

World 1-1 color.

The same image as before, only in color.

World 1-1.

This is part of a larger project that involves drawing classic NES game levels on landscape paper. First up,the ur-level of post-crash gaming, World 1-1!

This is the lineart version. Look for the color version later.

Drawing utensils.

I’ve been working on this for some time now. I actually let it sit unfinished for a good portion of that time. Anyway, here is the final version of this piece. I’ve posed previews of it in the past. A pixelart that depicts assorted illustration tools.

You obviously need to click on the image to see the full magnification.

Forest creature.

This creature is based on a similar being that made an appearance in a dream I had back in 2008. The creature is made up entirely of animated leaves. There is nothing under the leaves. The mask is vaguely inspired by the flying masks in Super Mario Bros. 2. The branches near the ‘head’ are supposed to resemble antlers.

Haruhi Suzumiya

Haruhi Suzumiya. Negative space. This is actually a “remix” of an older image I did. The main difference is the added detail to the face, the abstract elements flowing from the ribbon, and thinner linework.

Another drawing tool pixelart preview.

This is another preview of the pixelart piece that also includes the Prsimacolor marker and Micron pen, featured in this post.

This image is a set of four Staedler mechanical pencils. Specifically, the Graphite 925.

You can see the specific pencil I mean here;

http://www.staedtler.com/graphite_925_eng

Anyhow, here is the pixelart version.

I just made one pencil, and modified it for all four versions. The only difference is the color of the lead weight indicator. These are my favorite mechanical pencils, because of the small sliding ‘window’ which indicates what lead weight you’re using. The colors indicate the lead size. Blue it .07, red is .05, orange is .09, and yellow is .03.  I could have made the actual tip of the pencil wider for the two wider sizes, or at least for the .09, and I may alter that in the final version.

Now, as to what this specific work is…I decided to do a large pixelart featuring a large number of drawing utensils. Mechanical pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, quill pens, etc. It will also include erasers, pastels, t squares, a compass, l squares, various drafting tools, etc. I’m trying to keep them all proportionate. Specifically, I started with the micron pen, and then used that as a guide. These Staelders were particularly difficult compared to the more simple things such as a colored pencil. The greater variety of surface detail made it difficult to get this right, and it ended up being far too long the first time I created the image.

Anyway, there it is! Another work-in-progress/preview. The final image should contain something like 50 or so drawing/drafting tools, all more or less to scale with each other

Lucca, dark style.

Just a fanart of Lucca, from Chrono Trigger, in a slightly different style and design than that seen in the game. This style was largely inspired by the style of Jean Giraud/Moebius, mostly in terms of the shading/hatching. I dispensed with her helmet, and gave the glasses a slightly different shape, then added a shoulder pad. Below is the image in color.

So, yeah. Flat color. I thought about shading it, but decided that this worked better. I added some scars to her face, to give her a slightly more hardened look. Think of this as a post-apocalyptic Lucca if you like, living in the 2300 A.D. setting for an extended period.

Alien plants.

A series of alien plants, drawn on vellum with Micron pens.

Both were created in the same manner as the flower in the previous post. The second one led to the creation of another image, which will be described in a new post.
